Durán, Ecuador

Durán is a city located in Guayas Province, Ecuador, on the Guayas River, opposite Guayaquil. It is the seat of Durán Canton, created in 1986. The city is officially named Eloy Alfaro after the Ecuadorian ex-president Eloy Alfaro.
As of the census of 2001, there are 178,714 people residing within canton limits. Durán is part of Guayaquil's metropolitan area. Most of its residents are commuters. The cities are connected by the Rafael Mendoza Avilés bridge, which crosses the Daule and the Babahoyo River.
