[edit] Mega Man Classic

Duo was formally introduced in Mega Man 8, chasing the adult stage of Evil Energy in its final form. The two robots fight in space, and both crash to Earth. In a last ditch effort to save itself the evil energy being created eggs that carried its DNA and memory which fell to Earth. These eggs are referred to as Evil Energy as a cover up. Mega Man is sent by Dr. Light to recover the "meteor", but only arrives to see Dr. Wily escape with the Evil Energy from the crashed purple robot. He then finds Duo, and brings him to Dr. Light's Lab for repairs.

Duo, upon regaining consciousness, leaves to find and destroy the Evil Energy Dr. Wily took. Mega Man and Duo fight, but soon realize that they are not enemies. Duo later shows up to save Mega Man from a giant robot Dr. Wily created and powered with the Evil Energy. At this point, Duo introduces himself, and formulates a plan to stop Wily. Duo would destroy the rest of the Evil Energy that has spread throughout the Earth, while Mega Man would destroy the generators making a barrier surrounding Wily Tower, and they would meet up inside later.

Sometime later, as the mad doctor's Wily Machine prepares to blast the stunned Mega Man, Duo arrives and takes the hit, saving Mega Man once again. He then returns to Dr. Light's lab to recover at Proto Man's suggestion. After Wily Tower crumbles, Duo saves Mega Man yet again by removing the Evil Energy from his body. Before leaving to resume his search for Evil Energy, he thanks Mega Man, and says that he hopes they will see each other again.

He later appears in Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters (Arcade 1996), which was actually released before Mega Man 8. He then appears as an unlockable racer in Mega Man Battle & Chase (PlayStation 1997-1998), and is included in the Mega Man & Bass (SNES/Game Boy Advance 1998-2002) database. Even though they do not know about Duo's mysterious past life or even where he came from, Mega Man and his friends still accept him as a valuable ally. He is also appears in the latest entry of the classic series, Rockman Strategy (PC 2001), where he is known as "Dio". Dio is Italian for "God".

[edit] MegaMan Battle Network

Main article: Duo (EXE)

In the Battle Network series, Duo has a counter-part who is more vicious at destroying evil energy. While the robot Duo wants to destroy a particular energy source called evil energy, Duo.EXE desires to destroy anything he deems evil.

In the anime series, when the villain Dr. Regal intiates mass destruction on the planet earth, it triggers a response from Duo's asteroid in deep space. Now aware of the "evil energy" of the earth, Duo deems the earth ready for the process of "Erasure" to rid it of the evil from the human race. However, interested in the bond called Cross Fusion, he spares the earth for a set amount of time, allowing Lan Hikari and MegaMan.EXE time to purge the evil from the earth.

[edit] Personality

Duo comes off as an adult version of Mega Man in many respects. As opposed to X who has more self-doubt and angst than his older counterpart, Duo retains Mega Man's idealistic view of good vs. evil while being more mature in his actions and more powerful in his body. In this way, Duo seems to be somewhat of a mentor to Mega Man.
