Template talk:Dungeons & Dragons prestige class

[edit] Template Created
This is the first draft of the template and has not yet been used. I believe more work and contribution can be done to it before being put into actual use and I welcome others to comment on it to discuss how appropriate it is and what may need to be changed. Enigmatical 02:50, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
- Perhaps the infobox-style table on the left should be implemented as an infobox template? Percy Snoodle 09:30, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

- I used Template:D&D Deity as the basis for it, but if an infobox template is more appropriate can you give me an example to base it on? Enigmatical 23:09, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

- Something along the lines of Template:Infobox RPG. It's not the look and feel that's a problem - it's just that at the moment, if the template changes after it's used then the articles won't; if you use an infobox, then at least that part can be updated globally. Class similarity should be class similarities, in case you want more than one, like on Loremaster or Mystic Theurge. Add an "Organizational" to the requirements list, for the many Prestige Classes that require joining a specific organization, otherwise they will clutter up the special category. This looks like a pretty good template, and I'm all for it, but I'm curious: how many articles do you plan to start about prestige classes? Are you going to be doing individual articles about each class? If so, how do you plan to sneak that past the deletion police? Stilgar135 00:38, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
- What is the policy on this then? We clearly have a list page which has links for each individual class, is there some kind of restriction on this? I would have thought that similar items would set precident (deities, core classes, etc) Enigmatical 23:13, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

- Wikipedia:Notability isn't an official policy, but it has quite a few followers, and I'm willing to bet that there's a healthy contingent who would argue that individual prestige classes don't deserve their own articles. You'll probably get "Such a minor branch of a subject that it doesn't deserve an article" at least once. Stilgar135 05:04, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

- Would that indicate that it is better to place several of these infoboxes on the same page and make it a part of the article on the book that contains them instead? Enigmatical 02:35, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

- I think so. You'll get a lot less resistance from the Articles for Deletion crowd that way. Plus, there are a lot of prestige classes that simply don't have enough information to sustain a full article. You could make an argument that a few classes should get their own articles (The DMG classes, Frenzied Berserker definitely, possibly Cavalier), but a book-by-book basis is probably best.
