Dunder-Mifflin
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dunder-Mifflin is a fictional paper company featured in the American television series The Office. The company, which supposedly trades under the ticker symbol DMI, is said to be a "mid-cap regional paper- and office-supply distributor with an emphasis on servicing small-business clients". The "Mifflin" portion of Dunder-Mifflin may be in honor of the first governor of Pennsylvania, Thomas Mifflin. Other theories suggest that the Mifflin may have come from a writer who was a former employee of the Boston-based publishing company, Houghton Mifflin.

[edit] Current events
The events of The Office focus on a documentary that is being filmed at the Scranton branch, managed by Michael Scott. During the first two seasons of the show, the entire company is under threat of downsizing, and cost-cutting: from health-care cutbacks, benefits slashing, and in some cases, firings. Most of this was stopped when the Stamford branch was merged with the Scranton branch, and most of the former Stamford employees have been fired, or quit, since then. It has been hinted to that the company is starting to show signs of failure, as they have not been reportedly shipping as much as previous years. There also have been some line-up changes in the upper-corporate area, as a new CFO has been recently brought in.
[edit] Trivia
- In the second season episode "Halloween" it is hinted that the average salary at Dunder-Mifflin is about $50,000 including benefits.
