Dukhovshchina

Dukhovshchina (Russian: Духовщина) is a town in Smolensk Oblast, Russia, located on the Vostitsa River some 57 km northeast of Smolensk. It is the administrative center of Dukhovshchinsky District. Population: 4,500 (2005 est.); 4,683 (2002 Census), 5,747 (1989 Census).
Dukhovshchina grew into a town on the spot of the Dukhov Monastery, built some time in the 13th century. It was granted town status in 1777.
