Duke Mitchell
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Duke Mitchell (born Dominic Miceli) (1926—1981) was an Italian-American film actor, slapstick comedian, crooner and independent film director. Duke Mitchell often performed his nightclub act in and around Palm Springs, California and anointed himself the "King of Palm Springs." Mitchell also provided the Elvis-like "singing voice" of Fred Flintstone in several episodes of the popular cartoon TV series, the Flintstones.
Duke Mitchell together with actor/comedian Sammy Petrillo had a semi-famous, short-lived nightclub act and comedy team that was ripped straight from the pages of Jerry Lewis & Dean Martin. The act got too close for comfort and Jerry Lewis famously threatened to sue the duo after he saw a film that they starred in, 1952's mad scientist & gorilla picture, Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla, which also starred a then washed-up Bela Lugosi.
