Duke Georg Alexander of Mecklenburg

Duke Georg Alexander of Mecklenburg, Count of Carlow (27 August 1921-26 January 1996) was the son of Duke Georg of Mecklenburg and his first wife Irina Raievskya (1892-1955).

He was married on the 30 April 1946 at Sigmaringen Archducess Ilona of Austria (born 1927), they had four children before divorcing on the 12 December 1974.

He was head of the Carlow branch of the House of Mecklenburg which considers itself the remaining line of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. The Carlow line had the title Duke of Mecklenburg with the style Serene Highness, confirmed by Grand Duke Cyril Vladimirovich of Russia on the 18 July 1929. This was recognised by the Hereditary Grand-Duke and head of House of Mecklenburg Friedrich Franz on the 23 December 1949 who gave them the style of Highness. He died on the 26 January 1996 at Mirow and was succeeded in his claims by his son Duke Georg Borwin.
