Dukagjini is a region in Northern Albania. Dukagjini consists of two tribes, Shala & Shoshi. Both tribes within Dukagjini belong to the Roman Catholic faith, although the Dukagjini of Kosovo is primarily of Muslims. Today, Dukagjini is apart of the Shkodër district of Albania. The origin of the name "Dukagjini" derives from the hero, Lekë Dukagjini, who united the people of the region along with the rest of Albania with the creation of the Kanuni. Leka became leader of the Albanian resistance of Turkish onslought right after the death of Skenderbeg. He fought bravely aside with his men for another thirteen years until his death.
