According to the Duff McKagan page Duff is a close rendering of the Irish word, Dubh, which means black-haired, so I copied the line from there and added it to this article. I hope no one objects. Danikat 20:16, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cleanup

This page was marked for cleanup per MoS:DAB. I deleted the following entries, but moved most of them to wikt:duff (if they weren't already there, that is).

  • Duffs is a brand of skate shoes
  • duff is everything that collects on the forest floor; mulch.
  • duff is a slang term for the bits left in the bottom of the bag after the booty has been consumed; crumbs
  • duff, in golf, means to hit the ground behind the ball. It is a back-formation from "duffer".
  • "Duff" is also used as slang for "rear end", as in "Get off your duff and do something useful!"
  • "Up the duff" is a UK/Aus/NZ slang for being pregnant.
  • Within science fiction fandom DUFF means the Down Under Fan Fund, a fan fund to bring Australasian members of fandom to North America and vice versa, in alternating years.
  • Duff, also D.U.F.F., an acronym meaning "Dumb ugly fat friend" or "Designated ugly fat friend". An insult referring to an attractive woman's less attractive friend, but otherwise with no standard usage. Sometimes alleged to be a person used to make the other person look better, also alleged to act as a social barrier to unwanted attention or as a gatekeeper to the more attractive person.

Also, I'd like to encourage others to move all (less notable) people with the name "Duff" to Duff (surname), or maybe even rename that page to Duff (name) itself so that it can include people with the given names "Duff". (I am not familiar with any of them, so I'm leaving them in for the moment.) – sgeureka tc 10:49, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
