Duenow

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Duenow is a Chicago based folk/punk/rap band.

The band consists of Zach Duenow on guitar and the harmonica, and Dorothea "Dot" Duenow on drums.

Zach and Dot are married, and have been performing together since November 2004. Prior to their marriage, Zach performed solo.

Duenow's first album "If You Could Only See What They Are Doing To You" was released independently in the latter half of 2003, and was brain blister of Zach using session musicians and recording with steve albini at his studio Electrical Audio, danny schaffer at 4040 studios, dave hutten at Red Squared Studios, and at the home studio of daniel pritzker a founding member of local sonia dada and a local philanthropic legend.

Their debut album as a duo is called "The Draft LP" and was released by united for opportunity (their New York Label) shortly after Zach returned to lucidity after a six month battle with crippling anxiety that kept him isolated from family and friends. Their 2005 "secular whores of Babylon" tour was cut short with the onset of the anxiety disorder, and they cancelled shows in 13 states including 3 showcases at SXSW.

They now reside in the suburbs of Chicago and work 9 to 5 jobs. They are expecting a child in May of 2007. He will be a boy and his name will be Bazil Luke Duenow. They have no plans to return to touring as a rock band, but have applied for a grant from MTV (dot's employer) to produce a children's album called "welcome to the world: a baby's guide to planet earth." This effort would attempt to be an updated version of Free to Be... You and Me the 1970s star-studded and wildly successful children's album.

In addition to being musicians Zach & Dot Duenow are infectious suburban rights purveyors. At the recently renovated suburban center for equal rights in Deerfield, IL the married couple work days fundraising and nights organizing pep rallies and events that center around the topics of overlooked suburban rights. Some of their most glaring achievements have been raising the suburban school district's Average Dollar Per Child (ADPC) index from only twice that of Chicago urban children to nearly 3 times that of the average Chicago urban child, making the northern suburbs the most education investment heavy district in Illinois. Also, they have fought for the approval of below minimum wage salaries for live-in help, and sleeping hours as "off-clock" hours for live-in help. They are currently organizing a coalition of SUVs to parade their vehicles around the Northbrook based DMV department of motor vehicles in order to demand tax breaks for peoples who may own 2 or more SUVs in a family.
