Duen Long (Chinese: 斷浪; pinyin: Duàn Láng) is a character in the popular Fung Wan comic series. He was the son of Fire Sword of the South, Duen Sui (斷帥) and once good friends with Wind. He is the ultimate betrayer, advantage seeker and after eating two pieces of the 7 broken parts of the Dragon Sphere, he became the most powerful villain that Wind and Cloud faced.

[edit] Childhood

After his father's duel with Wind's father went awfully wrong, he and Wind both fell into the river and rescued by Hung Ba. Duen Long and Wind grew up in Hung Ba's Tin Ha Wui but due to Mud Buddha's prophesy, Hung Ba only set sights on Wind and did not highly regard Duen Long.

[edit] Teenage years

When Hung Ba organized a competition to choose the 3 leaders of the houses of Frost, Cloud, and Wind (the main sections within Tin Ha Wui), Duen Long was due to fight Cloud for the leader's position of the house of Cloud. The day before, Hung Ba approached Duen Long and commanded him to lose to Cloud on purpose. Confused and angry, Duen Long lost his focus on the actual duel and lost the fight to Cloud. Since that day, Duen Long became jealous of Cloud and always wanted to surpass Cloud.

[edit] Adult years

Duen Long is a prodominate character in Storm Rider, and has played the role of the traitorous turn-coat numerous times. Duen Long's weapon is the Fire Kirin sword (麟)-- a thin red/orange blade with a jade green guard and handle. After a series of events, Duen Long's sword is eventually shattered, and his honor as a swordsman along with it.

[edit] The Kirin Demon

After the loss of his Fire Kirin sword as well as being humiliated as a swordsman throughout the series, Duen Long set out to make things right for himself by absorbing pieces of the Dragon Sphere, known to the world as Dragon Pills (龍元). He was able to secure one of the pieces, and gained much power from it. Eventually, the immortal arch-villain Dai Seik Tin would fall victim to Long's new power -- and it is here that Duen Long absorbed his second Dragon Pill. The consumption of two pills not only ungraded his skills further, but altered his physical appearance as well. He slowly began to resemble the kirin dragon demon (麒麟魔)-- his hair became naturally blood red, the shape of his head became slightly narrow, and his right hand evolved into a deadly claw that can generate fire instantly.

[edit] Ultimate Showdown

After harboring hatred towards both Wind and Cloud over the years, Duen Long's new power finally allowed him to realize his revenge. He initiated a challenge to both heroes, and lured them into accepting by committing heinous crimes against their family -- by brutally murdering Wind's mother and Cloud's lover Chor Chor. Wind and Cloud rushed to take out Duen Long, but found themselves outmatched -- and it is here that Cloud was killed in action.

[edit] Death of the Kirin Demon

Cloud's body was preserved after the fight, and eventually revived after a visit by Shen Yi, the local miracle doctor. After absorbing a medicine that revived and upgraded his body, Cloud became powerful enough to fight Duen Long on an even scale. Wind, who had also received special training from the Warrior of 10 Stances, battled Duen Long alongside Cloud. Unfortunately, the post-mortem medicine had its limits, and Cloud's body could not keep up for long. The two Dragon Pills inside of Duen Long had also intensified his body to the point that it became extremely hard to completely destroy. Not even the combined effort of both Wind and Cloud could put Duen Long down for the count. Near the end of the fight, Wind became critically injured after suffering a blow from Duen Long, and out of rage, Cloud sent Duen Long hurling into a mountain. Even then, Duen Long -- with most of his body degenerated at this point -- refused to die. It is only after Nameless stepped in and, along with Cloud, delivered a finishing blow to Duen Long that he finally met his demise.

[edit] Offsprings of the Demon

Before the showdown of fate with Wind and Cloud, Duen Long had an affair that resulted in the birth of a set of twins -- Shen Feng and Lan Wu. Duen Long's sparingly kind traits were apparently passed down to Shen Feng, while hints of his evil ambitions can be seen in Lan Wu. Both were separated as babies: Shen Feng was raised as a good person by Japan's then-number 1 swordsman, Wong Ying, and eventually inherited his skills and blade. Lan Wu was brought to the Infallible Blue Clan and grew up to become its cruel, dominating leader.

Both men later discover the truth about their father. Shen Feng rejected Duen Long, claiming that Wong Ying was the only true father in his mind. Nevertheless, he vowed to correct the wrong-doings that Duen Long caused in his lifetime. Meanwhile, Lan Wu chose to fully embrace the legacy of evil his father had left behind. Wu is currently the sole user of the Deity Destroyer stance -- a set of techniques that Duen Long created after consuming the two Dragon Pills.
