The Duel on Coruscant is a fictional fight in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.
During a meeting with Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, at the Coruscant Mon-Calamari Opera, Palpatine told Anakin Skywalker a legend of a Sith lord named Darth Plagueis the Wise, who had the power to prevent death and create life. He was so intuned with the Force, that he could manipulate midi-chlorians to that end. But, one day, his apprentice killed him in his sleep after learning that power. It was the only power to save Anakin's wife, Padmé Amidala, from dying at childbirth. It was a strategy used by Palpatine to lure Anakin further to the dark side.
When Anakin met up with Palpatine to inform him that General Grievous engaged Obi-Wan Kenobi on Utapau, he finally revealed himself as the Sith Lord the Jedi have been looking for, Darth Sidious. He revealed that he had Plagueis's power and he could teach it to Anakin if he becomes his new apprentice.
Anakin told Mace Windu of Palpatine's identity. Distrusting Anakin, he took a squad of Jedi, Kit Fisto, Agen Kolar, and Saesee Tiin, to the Chancellor's apartment.
When the Jedi were going to arrest Palpatine, he ignited his lightsaber that remained hidden in his sleeve.
He jumped at Agen Kolar and thrusted his lightsaber through his stomach. He then slashed Saesee across the waist. He put up a greater effort for Fisto, but killed him by slashing him from the chest down.
As Windu and Sidious dueled, they went up near the apartment's window and Mace strategically shattered it to put Sidious in a vulnerable position. Windu then kicked Sidious in his face, sending his lightsaber out the window. Unarmed, Palpatine laid against the wall. It was then Anakin came to Palpatine's apartment and further dismayed his trust in the council. Sidious used his Force Lightning on Mace, but he deflected it back with his lightsaber. The bolts flowed through Sidious's face, deforming him considerably.
As Mace was about to give Sidious the killing blow, Anakin cut off his arm, giving Sidious a chance to kill him. He used his Force Lightning to hurl him out the window to his death.
Afterward, Anakin pledged himself to Sidious's teachings to learn Plagueis's power of life. He was now forever known as Darth Vader. The Great Jedi Purge had begun.
