Lady Julie de Polignac is a fictional character from The Rose of Versailles manganime, inspired by the real Madame de Polignac. A beautiful court singer, she became the best friend of Marie Antoinette, and was one of the biggest causes of Marie Antoinette's fall.

Unlike Lady Du Barry, Polignac managed to worm her way in Marie Antoinette's circle of friends and manipulate the unexperienced and sheltered teenaged Queen. She induced Marie Antoinette to lie to others in several important occasions, and to cover up the results with more lies no matter what happened.

Many years before her arrival to the court, when she still was a teenager from the lower noblesse, Polignac gave birth to a girl named Rosalie, whom she couldn't raise since she was just 14 years old. She then gave her up to a peasant named Nicole Lamorliere, identifying herself only as "Martine Gabrielle". Rosalie only knew this after Nicole was hit by a carriage and died... ironically, the carriage belonged to Lady de Polignac. Maddened, Rosalie tried to kill Lady de Polignac not caring that she was her birth mother, but her protector Lady Oscar disuaded her.

In an attempt to further expand her political influence, Lady de Polignac then commited her youngest daughter, Charlotte to an engagement with the Duke of Guise. The prospect of marrying the lecherous Duke and being subject to his attentions for the rest of her life drove the young girl mad and she committed suicide. To try solving the problem, Polignac summoned Rosalie and told her that, if Rosalie didn't come to live with her, she'd reveal that Lady Oscar was her protector, which would give her problems since Rosalie's adoptive sister Jeanne was behind the terrible Necklace Affair. Rosalie accepted at first, but seeing that her mother only wanted her to take Charlotte's place and marry the Duke, she ran away from the Polignac manor.

During the Revolution, Lady de Polignac barely managed to escape from France and left to Switzerland, where she died alone years later.
