Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart in Omaha

The Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart in Omaha is an independent, Catholic, college-preparatory high school for girls located in Omaha, Nebraska, and is also home to a co-ed preschool.
Duchesne was established in Omaha in 1881 and is named in honor of St. Philippine Duchesne, one of the first women to join the Sacred Heart convent, and who came to the United States from France in the early 1800s and established the first Sacred Heart school in St. Charles, MO.
Duchesne emphasizes the five sacred heart goals of:
- a personal and active faith in God
- a deep respect for intellectual values
- a social awareness which impels to action
- the building of community as a Christian value
- personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom.
Duchesne students also experience countless traditions while in attendance. One of the oldest traditions, Prize Day, is held on the last day of the school year. Students are recognized for academic excellence on this day. Other traditions include:
- Honors Day, where students are recognized for leadership, scholarships, extra-curricular activities, and athletics
- Ring Ceremony, during which the Senior Class bestows class rings to the Juniors. The Seniors then turn their ring so the Sacred Heart faces outwards to recognize that as they leave they spread the spirit of the Sacred Heart throughout the world.
- Mater, where sophomores recognize women who have been models of the Virgin Mary within their lives. The sophomores then receive their mater medal.
This is the best school in Omaha!!!!
Duchesne is one of 21 schools in the Sacred Heart Network in the United States. There is also a Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart in Houston, TX.
