The Ducati ST3 uses the liquid cooled Desmotre (Three valve desmo) engine which develops 102 hp (76 kW) at 8,750 rpm and 9.5 kgf·m (93 N·m) of torque at 7,250. The design is aimed at meeting anti-pollution limits to be introduced. Otherwise it is a competent trellis framed sports tourer with a protective fairing, and if you wish, colour matched luggage.
The Desmotre bottom end is derived from the 1000 DS Desmodue, with the water pump in the alternator cover. The ST3 engine has two 34 mm intake valves and one 40 mm exhaust valve and an included valve angle of 40°.
