Dublin North (Dáil Éireann constituency)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dublin North is a constituency represented in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish parliament or Oireachtas, located in the northern area of County Dublin. The constituency has an electorate of 72,908 and at present is served by 4 Teachtaí Dála (TDs). The method of election is the Single Transferable Vote.

The constituency is made up of the Balbriggan and Malahide electoral areas of Fingal County Council and the majority of the Swords electoral area. Towns in this constituency also include Lusk and Rush. Recent boundary revisions have seen rural parts of the Swords area appended to the Dublin West constituency but the constituency will retain its four seats with the growth in new housing throughout the constituency largely in the Balbriggan area. In the 2007 general election three sitting TDs, Seán Ryan, G.V. Wright, and Jim Glennon will not be running. Among the candidates for 2007 are Trevor Sargent TD (Green Party), Cllr. Joe Corr (Green Party), Dr. James Reilly (Fine Gael), Cllr. Michael Kennedy (FF), Cllr. Darragh O'Brian (FF), Brendan Ryan (Labour), Sen. Tom Morrisy (PD), Cllr. Clare Daly (Socialist Party), Cllr. David O'Connor (Ind), Matt McCormac (Sinn Féin) and John O'Leary(FF).
