[edit] Dorchester Town Football Club

Hi,

Again, welcome to wikipedia!

Clearly, you're a DTFC fan, and thus you'll be interested in improving it and related pages. I am an 'anon' (unregistered user), who has chosen not to maintain a wikipedia account (for reasons I am willing to discuss but won't bore you with now!). This means I am not, unfortunately, able to start new pages, e.g. Mark Morris (footballer) or The Avenue Stadium, or upload key images such as DTFC's crest. If you want to do any of that, great, if not, never mind.

Anyway, my current project is DTFC, and I'm basing it upon Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Clubs. If you co-operate, we can build a great article!

Thanks!

Anyanon

[edit] Copyright

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Matt Groves, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material.

This article appears to be a direct copy from http://www.dorchestertownfootballclub.co.uk/match/players/groves.html. As a copyright violation, Matt Groves appears to qualify for speedy deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. Matt Groves has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message. If the source is a credible one, please consider rewriting the content and citing the source.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GFDL, you can comment to that effect on Talk:Matt Groves. If the article has already been deleted, but you have a proper release, you can reenter the content at Matt Groves, after describing the release on the talk page. However, you may want to consider rewriting the content in your own words.

Thank you, and please feel free to continue contributing to Wikipedia.

Thanks for confirming that it's your site. --Whouk (talk) 17:27, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
It's possible the Admin deleting the pages didn't read your message on the articles' talk pages, or alternatively may have deleted the pages for a different reason. I can't see who the Admin was to ask them though - contacting the deleting Admin would be my best suggestion otherwise.
However, rather than getting the articles undeleted and editing them, I'd suggest creating more encyclopedic articles: don't copy the tables directly from your website, but write paragraphs about the players, ensuring that they are from a neutral point of view (despite your support for the team) rather than bullet points in tables, and don't include the "question and answer" format of some of the information. See Michael Owen for an example of a well-structured article.
For reference, the undeletion policy is at Wikipedia:Undeletion policy --Whouk (talk) 17:47, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
You could ask on RN's talk page to see if he'll undelete the pages. But it may be better to recreate them in a different format. --Whouk (talk) 18:30, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Blanking pages

I get the impression that you've blanked pages you started with the intention of replacing them with something better, but I wouldn't do that, personally. Blank pages look pretty silly and usually page-blankers are vandals (somebody might get the wrong idea about you). You might strip the article down to "X is a football (soccer) player for Dorchester Town F.C." until you finish a Wikipedia-style table or something, but I'd avoid the blank page thing. [edit] Deletion discussion

Hi there. I've nominated en masse the articles about Dorchester Town footballers that you have created, as I do not believe that, as non-league amateur players, they are notable enough for inclusion. Discussion and voting is taking place at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dorchester Town footballers, your input is welcome. Qwghlm 13:31, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

Re: this edit you made: [1], I would appreciate it if, when I have made a mistake in a comment I have made on a talk page, you point it out in a separate comment that you sign yourself, rather than directly rewriting what I have said. Modifying the content of others' comments on Wikipedia is generally frowned upon. Though I am sure you made that change in good faith and in this case it was only a minor change, I would prefer to be publicly wrong than have my knowledge misrepresented or my opinions rewritten in any way. Please refrain from modifying others' comments without their permission in future. Thank you. Qwghlm 00:18, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Articles for deletion

Hi,

I'm a bit surprised that you haven't voted on the AfD for the articles you created (at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dorchester Town footballers). Just follow the link and click edit at the top-right. I hope the 'welcome' that you've had here doesn't put you off the project completely. Very short articles tend to be frowned on unless it's obvious that they'll be expanded later, so it might be better to expand the player articles to at least a decent paragraph if you create some more. I think merging them into the Current players section of the DTFC article would be best though - if any of the player descriptions get too long later you could always split them out when necessary. I've done this at F.C. United of Manchester and nobody has complained (yet - this is Wikipedia after all).

If there's anything I can help with, leave a message on my talk page.

We can't use with permission images. They have to be released under GFDL or creative commons (or PD) for us to use them.Geni 14:53, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Bradshaw.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Bradshaw.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. --OrphanBot 06:16, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikiproject on non-league football

I've been thinking about creating a WikiProject for English non-league football, and am trying to find out if there's enough interest to make it worth doing. It would be useful to have somewhere for people who are interested in non-league football to have a place to discuss articles, and if there's enough interest we could get a monthly collaboration going with a view to getting non-league articles on the front page. It would be listed as a sub-project of WikiProject Football unless the members of that project objected strongly to it, and people would be able to join either or both (or neither) depending on what they were interested in. I thought you might be interested so I'd like to know if you are - if I get more than 3 or 4 positive replies I'll set it up. Image:Yemen flag large.png CTOAGN (talk) 12:46, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Some Advice

Soon i am planning to take a photo to put on this site. What do i choose as the licence when i do this. I only ask as you have deleted one of my other photos. Many Thanks (Dtfcdev 19:48, 1 February 2006 (UTC))

If you're taking the photos yourself, then you should license it under an appropriate Creative Commons license, depending on what you want to require people who use the photo to do. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Creative Commons Licenses for a list of CC licenses that Wikipedia allows.
As for the deleted photo, if you can give me the name of the picture, I can probably get it back. It might still be on Wikipedia, or I might have a copy on my hard drive. --Carnildo 08:06, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Non-league wikiproject

Hi,

I've created a project on non-league football at Wikipedia:WikiProject Non-league football. There isn't much there yet, but please add your name if you're interested and feel free to add any content or put any suggestions on its talk page. CTOAGN (talk) 10:08, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Avenuestad.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Avenuestad.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Peter O. (Talk) 18:51, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
