[edit] Re:Happy Happy Happy

Yep, I can remember that guy for as long as I've been remembering things. My dad first sighted him (throwing epithets as Chiang Kai-shek!) back in the 1970s.

I didnt take the pic. User:Allentchang snapped that photo in SF Chinatown...I'm not sure of the exact street corner, but he's there quite a lot. I've seen him yelling "Dalai Lama owned slaves" past dinnertime. --Jiang 03:41, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Delta Sigma Phi

I've been watching the progress from afar. Some chapter house pics might be nice if some could be scared up... Nice work... (Beta Pi, Michigan Tech, '83) ++Lar: t/c 22:17, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] List of fraternity and sorority mottos

Greetings....I don't know, have I been involved with that article? Or are you just asking my opinion? I don't think I have an opinion... Rx StrangeLove 15:48, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

I don't know, it doesn't look any worse than hundreds of other lists we have. I don't see a lot of value in it but others might. It's certainly verifiable, whether it's somehow encyclopedic or not is another question. I don't have any stong feelngs about it though. Rx StrangeLove 05:20, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fraternity/Sorority project

Thanks for the info. I agree that some standards would help. As for the Theta Xi page, I am an alumnus also. I put the chapters into 2 columns which reduces scrolling. I still need to get back and fix all the alumni, especially sports...I dumped a lot of text there until I can create pages for some and delete others. I started a page for Jerry Tagge, which has gotten others to add more. I also want to have the links to alumni chapters as a separate "List of Theta Xi Alumni chapters" and get them off the page.

Certainly some stuff belongs in brochures, not Wikipedia. I would like to see charitable causes that are tied to each national though, I think that is educational and can be linked to the charities.

Other than that, let me know what you are thinking. Aaron charles 08:04, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Beta Proj

Hey bud. Thanks for the feedback, but I disagree with your point of view. My reservations are on the Fraternity/Sorority project page, so hopefully that outlines my point of view. Tell me how I can accomodate your concerns! Pat 04:05, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

Hey, I appreciate that, and I hope I'm not offending you at all. I think we're in agreement over what articles require, and I believe our differences are really around whether those guidelines and rules can be provided for in chapter articles, which I think they can (and thanks for the support on Zeta Tau! That's the archetype for the others). My POV is that the ZT page can be replicated again and again. I just want the opportunity for that. Does that make sense? If you would like me to disconnect the project from the frat/soror project, that's cool. I just think that the two are connected enough that Beta's project being descendent from that one is worth noting for both projects' sakes. Gracias, amigo! Pat 06:09, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RE: NPC Sororities

I would like to help, although I don't necessarily agree on an NPC infobox change. Particularly since 90% of them are finished, tailored to the sorority, etc. While I do agree that the sorority/fraternity articles do need some standardization not to mention a unified look, I believe the info boxes for the NPC sororities/fraternities are well established, not to mention look good. Since the NPC is itself defined as '[each] member [of the NPC] group is autonomous as a social, Greek-letter society of college women and alumnae.' I don't believe it needs to be re-tailored to state that. Though I do believe a section could be created on the info box to include this, or to say that it is a social sorority/fraternity. You stated 'it would create a much more unified look for all of the greek pages' while that might be so, not all the Greek sororities or fraternities are the same. I believe since all of the articles that have this are a part of the NPC, it should be acceptable to keep this way. Because being in the NPC is by definition, being a social sorority.

I think the info box for the NPC wiki articles are fine, they are an informative at a glance info box, which is what they are supposed to be. While I think the template that you have set up is good, the NPC is just as informative. The only difference between the template and the NPC infoboxes are the fact that the infoboxes have the heading (in the sorority/fraternity colors), nicknames, founders, and badge pictures (optional), while the template doesn't include that it does have the headquarter information and the type of fraternity. I think while the template is good, my personal preference lies with the NPC infoboxes just because it looks more personal. While others might not want to take the time to keep this format with the rest of the fraternity/sorority articles, I believe the template would work for them, as the infoboxes work for the NPC articles. I'm sorry if this is starting to sound repetative, lack of sleep combined with wikipedia, not a good combination. If you want to discuss this I am very open to it, I'm not adverse to change, I just believe that most of the NPC articles look pretty good, and I have the 'hey if it ain't broke, don't fix it' feelings toward them. *shrug --ImmortalGoddezz 06:10, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Hopefully now I can make a clear minded argument as to why I believe the NPC infoboxes shouldn't be edited/changed. Taking your arguments one by one: The fact that they look like they could be taken from some guy's blog. I really do have to disagree with you on that one. I believe with the personalization each box goes through to fit each sorority (sor./frat.'s name in colors) it looks better, whereas with the template, though I believe it looks nice, just doesn't appeal to me. This argument is mostly personal preference/aesthetics. I think with the template, where it would look great for some (male) fraternity it just seems lacking for the NPC articles. Once again, personal preference there.
As for the pictures of the flowers, pins, etc. Yes I agree they should have a seperate symbols section, and most of them do, but the info box is as stated before is an at a glance way to get information. The only picture I really agree to having in the info boxes is the crest, and member's badges, tastefully done. Take Alpha Sigma Alpha as an example of this.
While the template will be easier to fix, the infobox layout can be created into a template itself, as far as I know, with the colors, and pertinate information on it. As for the copyright vio: Yes, some of the articles are in copyright vio, but most of them are not. The ones I have on my watched list (and I don't have all of them) are not in copyright vio because if they were I would cut the information. Yes, I agree that a wikipedia article does sound like a rush brochure when it is in copyvio, and that should be fixed more so than templates added or infoboxes, but I am also not a deletionist. I delete the copyvio information and work on the article until it is out of copyvio, as opposed to listing it, like I know some people do. I believe that all of these articles can be improved upon in some way or form. --ImmortalGoddezz 14:51, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Template:user Delta Sig

Hi, thanks for the box but I have to let you know I'm somewhat concerned because the image of the crest in it doesn't have clear copyright info in it... WP policy is not use fair use images (non PD or clearly licensed to WP) on user pages. Maybe the box should use "ΔΣΦ" instead? Those are just characters and not subject to copyright. I have made that change. (it can be reverted if the copyright can be cleared up for the crest...) You can reply here, I'll see it. Happy editing! ++Lar: t/c 16:54, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Well the wierd thing about fair use about this one is that we are members and we are authorized to use it.
And on an aside I think the seals of the UC system should return to the UC template and the CSU seal back on the CSU template because the seals are that of a public agency and not subject to copyright, unlike the "Cal" and "Ucla" script logos and so on. Dspserpico 19:06, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
Two things about the members can use the crest suggestion:
  1. There is no way to prevent a non member from using that box. We cannot enforce any sort of "hey take that off your page, you're not a Delta Sig"...
  2. WP policy errs on the side of caution and even if we demonstrated we had clearance to use the crest, the foundation has chosen to prevent it and we must abide with policy (I'm a WONK about that stuff)...
I can't speak to the UC and CSU boxes, haven't seen them... but most university crests are state not federal property and most states assert copyright. (public agency or not) Hope that helps! ++Lar: t/c 19:13, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
OK, I see your point, and the letters read way better than the crest. If you wish to delete the user category due to fears of a possible accusation of vote stacking, feel free to do so. You're the admin with the delete button. Dspserpico 21:31, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
I think we're probably OK on the category for now... there's two of us in it, what are we going to influence? LOL... ++Lar: t/c 00:53, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wiki Project Fraternities and Sororities

I considered joining when the project was first created but I didn't agree with some of the things. I'm glad that someone is taking it up again to get some uniformity among the fraternities and sororities. Right now I really don't have the time to commit and don't edit as much as I used to plus I'll be gone for several weeks. My recent revision on Pi Kappa Alpha was the first major revision I've done in months. I hope to do some more but there's bad timing on my part. Maybe when I have more time, but thanks for asking nevertheless. Good luck with the project. --† Ðy§ep§ion † Speak your mind 00:08, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you for your comments in Lar's RfA!

We are here to build an encyclopedia!

Hi Serpico, and thank you for your supportive comments in my request for adminship! With a final tally of (109/5/1), I have been entrusted with adminship. It's been several weeks since the conclusion of the process, so hopefully you've had a chance to see me in action. Please let me know what you think! Thanks again, and I will do everything I can to justify the trust you've placed in me! Maybe even join the fraternities/sororities project! YITBOS... ++Lar: t/c 03:25, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

Adverts: Like The Beatles?... Like LEGO?... In a WikiProject that classifies?... Are you an accountable admin?... Got DYK?...

Thanks for uploading Image:Tonglogo.jpg. However, the copyright tag you've used is deprecated or obsolete, and should not be used. This could be because the tag is inaccurate or misleading, or because it does not adequately specify the copyright status of the image. [edit] Greek Life Template 2.0

OK, I've added ratings and ranking to the proposed template for Fraternities and Sororities, with the requirements to be found on the appropriate page. We're waiting on a transparent picture; is there anything else to be done to this template? I'd like to give it another week or so before making it an official template. Just leave some comments on the template talk page for the template. —ScouterSig 02:05, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Untagged image

An image you uploaded, Image:Cluseal.gif, was tagged with the {{coatofarms}} copyright tag. This tag was deleted because it does not actually specify the copyright status of the image. The image may need a more accurate copyright tag, or it may need to be deleted. If the image portrays a seal or emblem, it should be tagged as {{seal}}. If you have any questions, ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. -- 08:12, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
