Dryandra prionotes A.S.George |
Dryandra prionotes is a shrub endemic to Western Australia.
[edit] Taxonomy
First collected by Alex George, Margaret Pieroni and Fred and Jean Hort on 16 July 2002, it was published by George in 2005. George placed it in the Dryandra genus, naming it "prionotes" from the Greek prion- ("saw") and -otes ("quality of"), in reference to the "saw-like" leaf margins. In 2007, all Dryandra species were transferred to Banksia by Austin Mast and Kevin Thiele, except D. prionotes, which was overlooked. "Dryandra prionotes" therefore remains the species' current, albeit invalid, name. The species will need a new specific epithet, as there is already a plant named Banksia prionotes (Acorn Banksia).
