In role-playing games, a druid is a character class that uses nature-based magical abilities (Divine Spellcaster). They generally strive to protect nature from civilized intrusion. Most druids have abilities involving healing, talking to animals, or transforming themselves into animal shapes.

[edit] Dungeons and Dragons

Druids in Dungeons & Dragons are spellcasters of neutral alignment, who gain divine magic from being at one with nature. Unlike clerics, druids do not have special powers against undead and cannot use metal armour. Druids have the unique ability to change into various animal forms.

[edit] EverQuest II

In EverQuest II, Druids are a priest class divided into Wardens and Furies. They are neutral and can come from Freeport, Qeynos, or Kelethin. They specialize in healing spells, particularly their heal over time (HoT) spells. They do the most damage of the priest classes but are restricted to cloth and leather armor.[1]

[edit] Fire Emblem

In Fire Emblem a druid uses dark, or elder, magic. In the second game, The Sacred Stones, they also use nature magic and staves. They are the upgraded form of a shaman class unit. In Fire Emblem a special type of druid called a dark druid appears as the second-to-last boss. He is capable of using light, dark, anima (nature) magic as well as staves (although his only attack is a dark magik attack called Ereshkigal).

[edit] World of Warcraft

In World of Warcraft, only Night Elves and Tauren can become druids. As they progress in level, they can shape-shift into different animal forms including bear, cat (panther for Night Elves, lion for Tauren), sealion, moonkin, tree, and bird (Only usable in Outland). They are also spellcasters, having some offensive but mainly healing magic. Their three talent trees are Balance, Restoration, and Feral. Balance focuses on offensive spellcasting, and allows the druid to change into a moonkin if enough talent points are spent in this build. Restoration focuses on healing, and allows the druid to change into a tree form if enough talent points are spent in this build. Feral focuses on improving animal forms for melee combat.
