Droid Invasion Theme

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Droid Invasion Theme, properly named the "Trade Federation March", is a musical leitmotif from the Star Wars movies. It was composed by John Williams to represent the relentless Trade Federation.

This piece is played during a number of scenes in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. As massive drop ships full of battle droids descend on Naboo, the march is heard quite prominently. Later, the battle droids march into the capital city of Theed, and the theme can be heard again. A variation of the theme can also be heard during Gungan Plains Battle. In Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, it is played as Obi-Wan Kenobi glimpses thousands of clones in formations below. A sub-theme that is melodically and harmonically similar to the Droid Invasion Theme can be later heard in the arena scene, although only a brief fragment of it is present in the final cut of the film. Williams aficianados can hear the cue in its complete form on track 12 of the film's soundtrack.

According to reports, this theme was recorded for use in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith but was later replaced by tracked music. The only statement used in the film (during the droid attack on Kashyyyk) is directly from Episode I. The aforementioned subtheme from Episode III can be heard when Anakin Skywalker marches to the Jedi Temple to slaughter the Jedi; this is also tracked music.
