[edit] Dance capitalization
I noticed that you listed yourself as a linguist. There is currently a dispute at the Lindy Hop article the Dance WikiProject about the capitalization of dances that could use the expertise of a linguist. If you think you might be able to help, we would certainly appreciate your comments. Thanks! --Cswrye 05:07, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Article on Al-
Hi. I wonder if you wouldn't mind taking a look at the article above, and expanding it further, or adding any sources appropriate for our English Wikipedia. I've already built it from a one-sentence stub using the sum total of my knowledge on the subject. Specifically, someone raised questions about the etymology of Semitic definite articles that I just couldn't answer. So I'm trying to recruit other Wikipedians with Arabic or Hebrew language and/or general linguistic expertise, such as yourself. Thanks very much! -Fsotrain09 01:51, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] IPA2
I'd love to comment on the AfD of IPA2, but first I'm interested in knowing a little bit more about IPA2. As of now I'm pretty neutral towards the whole topic, including IPA2. What real-world usage of IPA2 is there? Any publications of periodicals, great works of literature, novels, manuals, non-linguistic websites, etc.? Why devise a new romanization for Persian when previous ones already exist? Was IPA2 inspired directly by specific romanization schemes of other languages? My questions are not mean-spirited – I really am curious about IPA2. –jonsafari 03:43, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
- The article is in pretty good shape so far -- I was just offering some additional suggestions. Good luck, and I look forward to your contributions. –jonsafari 03:04, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for your word of thank on my talk page. But, while I appreciate the gesture, it makes me wonder whether you are still thinking of the business as a popularity contest. The sum of my comments about the page were "Week keep, as per Evertype". The rest of it was about the process, and particularly trying to get Shashank to understand that it was not a popularity contest.
It was perfectly reasonable for you to draw the debate to Shashank's notice. But his subsequent postings indicate that he has no relevant contribution to the debate - if he had, he would have made it. Therefore, his contribution is worthless, and should have been ignored. I don't know what process the admins go through when they adjudicate AfD debates - I am sure it is not just a matter of adding up the recommendations - so I don't know whether Shashank's contribution was ignored or not. But in my view it should have been.
I don't wish to be ungracious in accepting your gratitude. But I feel you are thanking me for the wrong reason. I did not do what I did to save your article, or to soothe your feelings. I did it because I care about Wikipedia. And my contribution to the process is far more important to me than whether your article was kept or not. ColinFine 09:51, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
I have just posted to Shashank's talk page, and I am even more disturbed by your thanks to him, for his 'fan-style support'. Fan-style support is exactly what he did, and what I castigated him for. ColinFine 10:03, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
