Drivecam

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

DriveCam is the brand name of a system that includes a windshield-mounted, dual-lens video camera that continuously records audio and video inside and outside the vehicle simultaneously to document events leading up to and immediately following an extraordinary driving event.

Recordings are only saved when triggered by g-forces (swerving, braking, collision), which prompts the system to save the ten seconds before and after an event. The camera then flashes a red LED to signal the driver that an event was recorded, providing immediate feedback.

When a driver returns to home base, any recorded driving events are uploaded from the vehicle to the company’s network using DriveCam’s analysis software. Each event is rated for severity and identified as a specific event type. Local supervisors review the events daily.

Recordings of risky driving behaviors such as following too closely or harsh cornering are used to coach drivers and improve their driving habits. When collisions occur, DriveCam recordings protect drivers from false blame and help to settle claims quickly and equitably.
