[edit] Homosexuality and medical science

Noticing you experience and interests, I wonder if you'd have a look at an article for me. Its presently found here: User:John254/Homosexuality and medical science as it had to be deleted from the mainspace. It was frankly a mess. In my opinion it should be broken down into three articles that don't exist at present:

  1. Homosexuality and HIV (incl. the 'gay disease' stigma)
  2. Homosexuality and genetics (the old nature-nurture chestnut)
  3. Reproduction for same-sex couples

I wonder if you could give your opinion as to whether you agree that these topics should be addressed, or whether a new homosexuality and medical science article can/should be created from the old. One of the problems with the old article was its absolute lack of sources and trying to cover too much at once. Was 'Gay Bowel Syndrome' ever something notable enough to be covered by Wikipedia?

Frankly I am at a loss at how to deal with the medical elements of LGBT issues, which we have been very bad at covering. I'd appreciate your input. Thanks, WjBscribe 19:01, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. I needed a fresh perspective on the issue. To address your points in turn:
  1. Perhaps the impact of HIV in LGBT issues are best dealt with in sub articles. e.g. LGBT stereotypes for gay disease and Bug chasing for HIV seeking behaviour of certain gay people.
  2. "Gay Bowel Syndrome" is therefore perhaps best placed in a historical article, or as part of LGBT stereotypes.
  3. Thanks especially for drawing my attention to Biology and sexual orientation, I had completely missed its existence and it needs to be listed in various places.
  4. Reproduction for same-sex couples and legal consequences is dealt with in various articles and there is no urgency for a single piece.
  5. Homosexuality and medicine:
    1. We definitely need an article on the unique medical care needs of homosexual. Are you aware of any good sources to form the backbone of such an article?
    2. As I see it, discrimination in healthcare provision should either be part of that article, or part of an article on discrimination generally (which is conspicuously absent as a stand alone article).
The next question is whether you believe any of the material in User:John254/Homosexuality and medical science should actually be kept, or whether one would be better off scrapping it and starting from scratch? WjBscribe 23:48, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Gastric bypass surgery

Thanks for your edits, especially the celebrity deletion -- that section has always made me grit my teeth. I watch this topic with somewhat proprietary interest.

Does it still deserve the "globalize" template -- see talk about this issue. Topnife 22:37, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Peter Pan

Welcome to the Musicals Project! I gave your excellent new Peter Pan article a once over and added a list of roles, as well as standardizing some of the formatting and Americanizing some usage (e.g. "Mrs."), since it's an article about the Broadway version. My main thought is that, next to the list of songs, you should add a column for which characters sing which songs. Some musicals articles show a list of Awards. I'm a bit amazed that no one had done this article yet! In any case, well done. Personally, I think that "article assessment", in the sense of filling out the table, is a waste of time, so I'll let someone else do that. However, right now, I'd say the article is still a "start", but almost a B-class article. To get to B, you just need a little more information about the genesis of the musical, and a short section on the whole "Peter Pan" thing, which would be headed by a reference to the main Peter Pan article. After that, to improve it to A, or "good article", it would need a thorough "referencing" job, like a research paper (plus complete casting history either in the article or in a separate article, like in Wicked (musical)). See for example W. S. Gilbert, an example of an article where I was dragged, kicking and screaming, into a referencing project leading to the article's being declared a "Featured Article". -- Ssilvers 04:28, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wiki-Winos

Howdy, I was curious if you would be interested in participating in an upcoming Wiki-Winos feature for the Wine Project Newsletter. If you are, take a look at the Interview Questionnaire and feel free to answer any or all of the questions that you like. For reference, you may want to look at how the interview with a previous Wiki-Wino (User:Charleenmerced)) went in our Feb 18th newsletter. You might also consider dropping off a nominee for the next Wine Improvement Drive Article. If you have any questions, feel free to drop me a line on my talk page. There you would find a link to User talk:Agne27/Wiki-Winos to where you could answer the Wiki-Winos question. Thanks! AgneCheese/Wine 02:27, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
