Talk:Dream for Africa
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This seems very different than the site linked here: http://www.dreamforafrica.org/
an appropriate response:
This Wikipedia entry is indeed different from the www.dreamforafrica.org site although both conceptions speak about development. The main difference between the conceptions is that the former is an Afro-centric paradigm whereas the latter is a US-based programme of Christian ministry.
Historically, missionary work (albeit in 'goodwill') has been used to colonise African minds, thereby undermining the traditions, religions and the intrinsic culture that all Africans are entitled to by virtue of birth in the African Motherland.
The development work promoted by the above organisation is welcome - eventhough it is by definition an expression of a US dream for Africa - it should not purport to represent the Pan-Africanist expression 'Dream for Africa'. Should an African organisation call it self 'American Dream' it would have severe difficulties in registering or claiming ownership of the phrase. The ambiguity can easily be resolved by referring to the US organisation as "DreamForAfrica.org" or some such title. 212.159.17.143 13:29, 10 December 2005 (UTC)
