Drexell's Class

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Drexell's Class was a situation comedy aired by Fox Broadcasting Company as part of its 1991-92 lineup.

Drexell's Class starred Dabney Coleman in the role of Otis Drexell, a fifth-grade teacher fictional Grantwood Elementary School in Cedar Bluffs, Iowa. Besides the bevy of cute kids, the cast also included, for most of the show's run, Edie McClurg as Drexell's boss, Principal Marilyn Ridge.

This program was one of several efforts in this general time frame to make Coleman's supposedly tough-but-loveable character the lead in a comedy. Others included Buffalo Bill and The Slap Maxwell Story; none ran for more than a single year despite garnering some favorable notice from critics.

[edit] Trivia

  • On the wall of Drexell's classroom a progression of American flags is shown from 1776 to the year 2000. The year 2000 shows a flag of Japan. This raised a tremendous controversy with World War II veterans groups who claimed that, even in jest, it was in very poor taste.
