Drewe Broughton (born October 25, 1978 in Hitchin, England) is a footballer currently playing for Boston United on loan from Chester City.
He started his career as a striker with Norwich City but failed to establish himself with the Canaries.
In October 1998 he joined Brentford for £100,000. Where he played just 45 minutes of a first half at Shrewsbury Town before being substituted. He was sold a week later for the same price to Peterborough United.
He stayed at Peterborough for 2½ years, making 35 appearances and scoring 8 goals. Whilst at London Road he had loan spells at non-league Nuneaton Borough, Dagenham & Redbridge and Stevenage Borough before joining Kidderminster Harriers after a loan spell in the summer of 2003.
After scoring 24 goals in 103 appearances he left them in June 2003 to join Southend United. Making 94 league appearances and scoring 19 goals in the whole of his spell at Aggborough. During this period he also had loan spells at Rushden & Diamonds and Wycombe Wanderers before joining Rushden & Diamonds permanently on 11th February 2005 and making 61 appearances in total in two seasons at Nene Park. Despite several red cards and many yellows, he speaks of his time at Rushden as "arguably the best spell of my career". [1] Despite his scoring 10 goals in the 2005/06 season, Rushden were relegated to the Conference National following their defeat at Boston United. He refused to sign a new contact, telling the press immediately after the Boston match that he considered himself a league player - which Rushden fans considered an ill-timed and insulting statement. Broughton joined Chester City on 16th June 2006 before linking up with Boston United on loan in October 2006.
An traditional old-style bustling centre forward, Broughton's 'robust' commitment on the field has ensured a love/hate relationship with fans and made him a target for match officials 'enjoying' a total of 10 red cards in his career so far, including two in his first six appearances for Boston United.
