Dress socks are an article of dress clothes specifically for men. They sometimes come in checkered patterns, and come in masculine colours like black, blue, and gray. Dress socks are worn in accompaniment to dress shoes and they are also used in formal wear when worn in accompaniment to a tuxedo. They can also be worn in accompany to casual wear like jeans.

They also come in a variety of heights. They come ankle high, mid calf high (the most common), and over the calf high. Dress socks have also been known to slip down the leg, causing the wearer to have to constantly pull them up. Some men would buy garters to help this, but with the elastics now, it is unnecessary.
