[edit] Synopsis

When Zhaan and Crichton are stranded in a transport pod, Zhaan recounts the story of her time with Chiana and Rygel after the events of Family Ties. While searching for the missing trio, they ended up on a planet, Litigara, where the population is almost exclusively lawyers, and Zhaan is arrested for a crime she didn't commit and was framed for--the leader of the ruling law firm has killed a political rival and wants to find an off-world patsy to blame for it. Her appointed counsels are Rygel and Chiana, which puts them at risk because if they lose and if they are found to have lied in their defence, then they by law will share the same fate as Zhaan. Increasing the pressure, Moya no longer wants to wait, as she wants to leave and look for Talyn, and she threatens to depart immediately. The strain proves too much for Zhaan and she begins to decompensate, hallucinating at one point that John, Aeryn and D'Argo visit her in her cell. In the end, ever inventive and guileful Rygel and Chiana hit upon a plan to expose the real killers and the conspiracy to frame Zhaan, and they are able to escape after dealing a serious blow to the ruling law firm. Unfortunately, there is still no word of John, Aeryn, and D'Argo.

[edit] Production Notes

  • An earlier version of this script was the pilot of the series, then called Space Chase (per Starburst DVD).
  • Originally written as the season premiere titled "Re: Union", this episode was reworked to be a flashback story after the Sci Fi Channel felt it was ill-advised to begin the second season with three main characters absent. It was also shown in its original version ("Re: Union") by the Sci Fi Channel as a novelty item for fans and is included on the Starburst DVD collection (per Starburst DVD).
  • According to Claudia Black's DVD commentary, the shot of Aeryn, D'Argo and John walking toward camera in silhouette (Zhaan's hallucination) is her favorite of the entire series.
