[edit] Identification of Bias

[edit] Explanation of Principle

Bias in research and writing can be offset only to a certain degree by intellectual integrity and a commitment to neutrality. At a certain point the attempt to curtail bias fails, and carried further it becomes counterproductive. Opinions become more carefully hidden instead of less pronounced.

On Wikipedia, the phenomenon is exacerbated by the fact that since contributions are unpaid, the writer is likely to be a person with a strong interest in (hence, bias regarding) the topic.

A more sensible approach is to aim for a solid (rather than purist) standard of neutrality and then offer a frank identification (stated separately) of one's likely bias. Good readers look for your bias anyway. You might as well help make the process as easy and clear as possible.

This is my identification of bias.

[edit] Identification

[edit] Politics

Strong anarchist leanings, with the usual entailments.

[edit] Religion

Categorically hostile to integrative, totalist religion (anything that has "The Answer"). Long personal history of conflict with various forms of Christianity. Deep loathing for entire Abrahamic tradition.

Sympathetic to new religious movements.

Basically atheist, but with undeveloped mystical leanings.
