[edit] Gameplay
You start off in the middle of a maze-like level that is covered by "fog of war" and must uncover everything to find your way to the next warp to reach the next maze. There are 30 floors in all. Each of the 30 floors including the first, are randomized using room patterns. This means each game is different from the last. When you complete all 30 floors, you win. Randomly pre-set on the ground, there are weapons, armor, potions, rings, food, money and enemies to fight. If you walk around for a long period of time without picking up food, you will die of starvation. Money is used to revive yourself from death, increasing in cost with the amount of times you died previously and the severity of the cause of death.
[edit] Plot
As you are riding your bicycle late one afternoon, you turn down an alley you never noticed before. You come to an antique shop and go inside. There you see a mysterious glowing crystal on a shelf.... When you approach the crystal and gaze into it, a powerful force pulls you in, and you black out.
When you awaken, you find yourself in a forest with a large egg following you around. Soon you realize this forest it nothing but a huge maze, crawling with dangerous creatures! Luckily you find some weapons, and other items scattered around, which you use to fight the monsters. The only way out of this place is to continue forward, defeating the monsters and growing in power as you go....
[edit] Sequels
There was a sequel entitled Dragon Crystal II on the Sega Game Gear, later rumored to be considered for cell phones.
