Dragan Čović was a member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, representing the nation's Croat population. Čović is born in a village Ljuti Dolac, near of city Široki Brijeg, in Western Hercegovina. He was elected in October 2002 to serve a four-year term. He was taking his eight month turn as leader of the presidency between 2003 and 2004.

Dragan Čović was dismissed by the High Representative Paddy Ashdown after Čović was indicted for financial corruption, before the trial took place. The Parliament replaced him with Ivo Miro Jović. The corruption case was based on money stealing from the SOKO company which was one of the biggest defense producer in former Yugoslavia (known for helicopter and plane making) and corruption charges in regards to Lijanovic Brothers case (helping Lijanovic with tax breaks and no customs on their meat products). Covic who has masters in economics has been known as one of the most corrupt officials coming from Mostar and one of the reason for HDZ party split in 2005 was Ljubic's accusations that corruption charges steaming from Covic's case are hurting the party. Bozo Ljubic later formed HDZ 1990 which he claims is the original party represenation of Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Before his election he had been a minister of finances in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and a lecturer at the University of Mostar.

On November 17, 2006, he was sentenced to 5 years in prison on corruption charges during his term as the chief financial minister of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Dragan Covis lives and works with his family in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
