Will Schachterle, Andy Ross, and Travis Harrison first joined forces under the name name "Andy Influence & Will Collision Featuring Travis Gravitas" --- "Andy Influence" being Andy Ross and "Travis Gravitas" being Travis Harrison, co-founders of Serious Business Records and members of the Unsacred Hearts --- before eventually settling on the more manageable DraculaZombieUSA. The dance-inflected, indie electronic music was composed by Will and Andy, with lyrics by Will and drums played by Travis. Also included in the line-up was Danielle "The Anvil" Pickett.

In late 2004, Andy relocated to California, where he eventually joined OK Go, while he continued to contribute to DZUSA from across the country.

The group released their first album (self-titled) in 2005. Later in the year, Will and Danielle relocated to San Francisco, prompting the reorganization of the band into so-called franchises. The first franchise to come about was led by Travis in New York when he recruited several people --- including Christina Da Costa and Bryan Bruchman (using the stage name "B.Bruxxx") of Man In Gray --- to perform at live gigs. These shows would come to feature Travis playing live drums along to the electronic beats previously produced by the band while the crew of new recruits sang and danced. This contingent is known as "The East Coast Annex" of DZUSA. Meanwhile, Will and Danielle have recruited Noah Strote (aka JAMF) to form "The West Coast Solution," releasing remixes of various songs --- most notable has been their early 2007 Nice Fixtures, featuring remixes of Jay-Z, Dizzee Rascal, LCD Soundsystem and more.

The entire bi-coastal collective has reportedly been working on the group's next effort, to be released in late 2007 with the title Plan Practice.
