Dr. Peter Briggs

Dr Peter Briggs is Principal of Southlands College and Pro Vice-Chancellor of Roehampton University. Peter gained a BSc in Molecular Sciences in 1966 and completed a DPhil in Theoretical Chemistry at the University of Sussex in 1969. Prior to joining Roehampton in 2002, Peter held various positions at the British Association for the Advancement of Science from 1980-1990, before becoming Chief Executive, a position which he held for twelve years.
Previous roles have included President, London Region, Association for Science Education from 1982-82, Chair of the Management Committee of the Methodist Church Division of Social Responsibility from 1982-1986 and Chair of the Management Committee of the Methodist Church Youth World Affairs Programme from 1982-92.
Peter holds various external positions. He has been a Member since 1991 of the International Programme Council at the International Centre for the Advancement of Scientific Literacy (Chicago Academy of Sciences) and a Member of the Executive Committee of the International Federation of Associations for the Advancement of Science and Technology. Peter is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and has been lay preacher in the Methodist Church for over 25 years. He was awarded an Honorary Degree (DSc) from Leicester University in 2002.
