[edit] Qwark Vid-Comics
Most of what we know about Dr. Nefarious comes from the less-than-reliable Qwark comics featured in the third Ratchet and Clank game.
Early in his career while still organic, he attempted to kill everyone in Blackwater City on Planet Rilgar with an Amoeboid army. This may have been occurring during the first game, as Ratchet has to fight the Amoeboids on the very same planet when he travels there to speak to Qwark. According to the Vid-Comic, Qwark saved the city and followed Dr. Nefarious to his lava base.
On his lava base, Qwark encountered Dr. Nefarious on a walkway, where the two flashed back to their biology classes, where Qwark constantly bullied Nefarious. Qwark tried to give Nefarious a wedgie for old time's sake, which ended up with Nefarious falling into the lava. As Qwark left the base, Nefarious' robotic arm was seen pulling itself out of the wreckage (completely unnoticed by Qwark); how exactly he became a robot is never revealed.
Qwark fought Nefarious again on Kerwan, where he was again defeated and had his head thrown in a bin. Lawrence then knocked Qwark unconscious and took him to Nefarious' frozen base, from which Qwark soon escaped.
[edit] In Ratchet and Clank 3
In R&C3, Nefarious has taken command of the Tyrrhanoid race, and begins with an invasion of Veldin. In a fairly large backstory to the game, Ratchet and the Galactic Rangers fight the Tyrrhanoids across much of the galaxy. Nefarious himself appears in many cut-scenes, in which he is plotting the downfall of organic life. Courtney Gears appears to have an interest in him, though this is quite evidently not reciprocated. Dr Nefarious is Secret Agent Clank's biggest fan and captured Clank to try and get him on his side. When Clank refused he built a copy of Clank which he called Klunk. He spends most of the game on a star station which when Ratchet and the team arrive at he blows up to try and kill them all. Klunk's true identity is revealed soon after Dr. Nefarious turns all of Metropolis into robots. After he is defeated, the Bioblitorator blows up and leaves Dr. Nefarious and Lawrence stranded on an asteroid awaiting coming in range of a planet or space station.
[edit] Appearances as a Boss
- Nefarious first appears as the boss battle at the end of the Vid Comic "Deja Q All Over Again".
- Nefarious then appears as the penultimate boss of R&C3.
- Finally, Nefarious pilots the Biobliterator with Lawrence against Ratchet as the final boss of R&C3.
[edit] Trivia
- In cases of extreme stress he overloads and picks up transmissions of soap operas, in particular, Lance and Janice, usually solved by either Lawrence or Courtney Gears hitting him around the head. Early on in the game, when this first happens after the player completes the objective on Aquatos, Lawrence says that he "really should have that looked at". However, at the end of the fifth Vid-Comic, he chuckles and says that it will have to be looked at "one of these days". Having remarked previously that it is "the best part of [his] day," chances are Lawrence will allow this to continue, purely for the satisfaction of hitting his tyrannical employer about the head.
- It seems that Courtney Gears is in love with him, calling him "snooky-wookums", much to Nefarious's chagrin.
- His Amoeboid army is present in Blackwater City when you go there in the first game, so it could be implied that Ratchet really stopped the Amoeboids with Qwark taking all the credit.
- He auditioned for "Galactic Idol" once, a parody of American Idol or Pop Idol singing 'You Are My Robot Lover', very, very poorly.
- Although Lawrence constantly insults him, he doesn't seem to care because he needs Lawrence, or he just never realises it. He sometimes even takes it as a compliment, for example, "You put the wit in twit". This may also imlpy he is not quite as smart as he claims to be.
- When the player completes Aquatos, Lawrence mentions he has to fold Nefarious's undergarments. This is confusing, as no robot seen in the games wears clothes (with the exception of Nefarious's cape and Lawrence's butler clothes).
- During Nefarious's broadcast encouraging robots to join him, Lawrence acts as the aid for the deaf.
- He appears again at the end of the credits in Deadlocked still floating on the same asteroid, now in range of the station, only to find it destroyed. We see a single voiceover with Lance and Janice, in which it is implied that Janice was born a man.
- Nefarious's name may be based on Dr. Nefarious Tropy, a villain from the Crash Bandicoot series.
- Nefarious made a cameo in Size Matters inside Ratchet's mind.
