Dr. Karol Galba

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dr Karol Galba (February 2, 1921 - ) is the least known of the three officials who refereed the 1966 FIFA World Cup Final at Wembley Stadium.

Galba, a Slovakian, was an experienced referee who had officiated at the 1962 FIFA World Cup and was, famously, in charge of the Real Madrid v Feyenoord tie on September 8, 1965 in which he blew up early in order to avoid a mass melee after the Spanish player Miera fouled Coen Moulijn. Galba became President of the UEFA Referees' Committee when it was first instituted in 1968.

He now works as a UEFA match observer.
