Dr. George O'Malley

George O'Malley is the name of a fictional character on the ABC television series Grey's Anatomy. The character is portrayed by actor T.R. Knight.

Dr. George O'Malley is one of Meredith's roommates. He had an infatuation with Meredith from his first meeting with her, and ended up having a one-night stand with her. She cried during their encounter. Often the most emotional of the male doctors, he sometimes gets into arguments with others despite his more positive personality. He has a markedly different personality from those of his brothers, one of whom accidentally shot his father in the buttocks on a Thanksgiving hunting trip. George is a graduate of Oregon Health and Sciences University. He had one girlfriend before, a nurse named Olivia, from whom he contracted syphilis. He was dating Dr. Callie Torres, an orthopedic surgeon at Seattle Grace, but his poor treatment of her in the third season has led her to get some distance. During a camping trip, he not only learned from Dr. Alex Karev that Callie had slept with Mark Sloan, but witnessed one of Burke's hand tremors. He confronted Cristina with his suspicions about Burke's problems after his father was diagnosed with esophageal cancer and a leaking aortic valve that would require surgery. Concerned about Burke's current abilities as a surgeon, he contacted Dr. Erica Hahn to perform his father's valve replacement. His relationship with Callie was strained when he confronted her about her fling with Mark Sloan, but as his father's condition deteriorated, George slowly allowed Callie to re-enter his life. George suffered a devastating loss when the difficult decision was made to take his father off life support after complications from cancer surgery left him in multi-system organ failure. To try and get over his dad's death, he has a ton of sex with Callie. She avoids him because she does not want to have that much sex, but he says that he would be happy to live with her and that he loves her. He asks her to marry him and they married in Las Vegas. Eight days have passed George and Callie enter, and George announces that he has married Callie in Las Vegas. This prompts Alex to laugh "Dude, she's Callie O'Malley.". Izzie mocks Callie (and indirectly George) about the small size of her diamond ring. After becoming very drunk after going to Izzie following a fight with Callie, during which she insisted that Izzie had feelings for him, George ends up having sex with Izzie. Though he intially forgets this in the hangover haze, he later remembers and insists to Izzie that it remain their secret, and goes home with Callie, crushed by guilt. George has been named such things as Puppy, 007 (liscensed to kill), Bambi, fetis and baby boy by the other teasing interns.
