Dr. Wilhelm Molly (1839-1919) was a resident of Neutral Moresnet, a territory located between Belgium and modern-day Germany. He advocated developing the territory as "Esperanto Free State" or Amikejo (Esperanto: literally, "friendship place"). Gustave Roy was co-founder of the movement. In 1908, a large demonstration was held in support of Amikejo. Following the depletion of the zinc mine located in Moresnet, the justification for the existence an autonomous Moresnet disappeared and it now forms an integral part of Belgium. Molly was a medical doctor by occupation, chief physician at the zinc mine La Vieille Montagne.
