Dovre region

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dovre region is a district of Norway consisting of the municipalities of Dovre, Folldal, and Oppdal.

This region is atypical in several respects: while most districts in Norway are bounded by geographical barriers such as fjords and mountain ranges, the Dovre region comprises alpine communities that straddle the mountain range of Dovrefjell. Each of the three municipalities is also in different counties: Dovre is in Oppland, Folldal is in Hedmark, and Oppdal is in Sør-Trøndelag.

Formal cooperation among the three municipalities is fairly recent, but there is ample evidence that the populations had much communication going back to prehistoric times.
