[edit] Band

Douglass' Marching band is one of the most sought after bands in Atlanta, as well as the State of Georgia. They compete in Battle of The Bands and various jamborees locally, as well as out of state. They have been asked to participate in parades and perform at various events. The honorable V.H. Moody, the band's director, has taught at Douglass since the school opened in 1968. He is currently the longest tenored band director in Atlanta Public Schools, showing his level of dedication. He is a living legend and his experience in the field of music is well reflected in the sound of his band. They have made trips to Philadelphia, Bermuda, Birmingham to the Magic City Classic, Orlando to the Florida Classic, Savannah to the nations 2nd largest St. Patricks Day parade, invited to perform at the New England Patriots halftime show and selected members performed at the Super Bowl XXXIII halftime show. Members of this band have marched and excelled in almost every historically black college and university marching band. The Pecussion section placed in the top three at a competition in January of 2006, after only 2 weeks of practice. That they were able to do this is a testimony to the legacy and teachings of Mr Moody.
