Douglas Stuart is a professor of the Old Testament at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Massachusetts in the United States.

Dr. Stuart received his B.A. magna cum laude from Harvard College in 1964, spent two years at Yale Divinity School, and then received his PhD in Near Eastern Languages and Literature from Harvard University at a relatively young age.

While in the PhD program he was considered somewhat of a prodigy- markedly ahead of others in his age bracket. As a professor at GCTS, he is known not only for his expertise in his field of study, but also for his jovial manner of teaching. What is also interesting about Stuart is that he is more Arminian theologically, while teaching at a relatively Calvinist institution.

Dr. Stuart's many books include How to Read the Bible for All Its Worth, and How to Read the Bible Book-By-Book, (both of which he co-authored with New Testament scholar Gordon Fee); Old Testament Exegesis: A Primer for Students and Pastors; Hosea-Jonah (Word Biblical Commentary); and Exodus (New American Commentary). Both a scholar and a pastor, he is currently the senior pastor of the Linebrook Church of Ipswich, Massachusetts He is the father of eight grown children, four of which he and his wife adopted. He currently resides in Bradford, MA and watches over two tree farms in Farmington, NH.
