Douglas McKay High School is a high school located in the North Lancaster neighborhood of Salem, Oregon. McKay is one of six standard secondary education facilities in the Salem-Keizer Public Schools district. Built in 1979, the school was named after former Governor of Oregon and United States Secretary of the Interior Douglas McKay.
McKay is a progressive institution in that they employ students as IT support for the entire building. Students are instructed on how to properly set up hardware and software in a professional manner situated in a business environment. The work is primarily independent, though team projects are not uncommon. This regiment is presented as a class, Computer Systems Support, and a passing grade earns credit toward graduation. The wireless network was set up with the help from students Ryan Neill, Michael Yu, Timothy Alvey, Jose Arredondo, and Justin Neill student techs participating in the class.
