Douglas Community School

Douglas Community School is a school in Cork, Ireland.

The school (also known affectionatly as The Comm, or DCS) was founded by the Presentation Brothers almost forty years ago as Coláiste Muire (Presentation Brothers College).

Today the school continues to follow the tradition of providing Christian education for boys, pioneered by Blessed Edmund Ignatius Rice.

Douglas became one of the first Community Schools when the Presentation Order passed on the management of the school to the local community in 1974.

The school has prospered over the years growing in student numbers and reputation.

· 1997 Douglas area is the fastest growing suburb of Cork with a strong local economy. The South City Ring Road gives easy access to the school.

In the early days of the school it was decided that only boys would be educated in the school. This was because there are two secondary schools for girls in the area, Regina Mundi and Christ King.

Douglas Community School maintains a "Sports for All" policy. This means that unlike several schools, DCS participate in a number of codes including: Golf Gaelic Football Hurling Soccer Pitch And Putt Badminton Basketball Athletics Tennis Hockey Table Tennis Rugby

Also this policy has encouraged DCS students to participate in a variety of sports outside of school and have represented Ireland in Athletics, Soccer, Golf, Soccer, Hockey, Rowing, Sailing and Swimming and represented Cork in Hurling, Gaelic Football and Soccer.
