Doug Moon is the original guitarist with Captain Beefheart and The Magic Band. Though he played on the early singles and demos, Beefheart replaced him with Ry Cooder on the finished Safe as Milk album. Doug does re-appear on China Pig on Trout Mask Replica. Beefheart allegedly turned to the band members, after recording that track, and said "that's how you play blues guitar".
