Doug is excited for the school costume dance, getting the opportunity to dance with his dream girl Patti. However, the school bully, Roger, breaks his cofidence saying Doug has no dance talent. When Doug goes to Skeeter, who is going be the DJ at the dance, for dance lessons. But that fails. Later, before the dance, Mr. and Mrs. Dink, the ones who are hosting the dance, are talking about they first met.

That night, dressed as a slug, Doug then gets the opportunity to dance with Patti. However, on the dance floor, Roger, dresses like a hammer, decides to ruin the evening. When Roger falls over forward, The head of Roger's costume hit's Doug's foot. Now in pain, Patti then joins in with hopping on one foot.

For a science fair, Doug makes a volcano. However, when a rumor starts to spread through school that Mr. Bone, put out a big fire until the rumor then became a fire that burned down the science building, Roger makes Doug feel that he was the one who is responsible for it, even though Mr. Bone actually put out Roger's oversized cherry bomb. When Doug, trying hide, decides to turn himself in to Mr. Bone's office, Patti tells everyone that the science building wasn't burned down. When Doug comes out, he realizes that he was given 2nd place for his volcano.
