Doubletree is an upscale hotel chain operated by Hilton Hotels Corporation. It currently owns over 150 properties, servicing more than 40,900 rooms throughout the United States, Canada, and Latin America.

"Doubletree" also refers to a device that connected two horses to a wagon or other implement. The tugs of a harness are connected to a "singletree." Two singletrees are connected to a doubletree, which, in turn, is connected to the implement.

[edit] History

  • The first Doubletree Hotel opened in Scottsdale, Arizona in 1969 next to the Scottsdale Fashion Square mall. This location is now the Scottsdale Days Inn. The land is on lease from the mall and the lease will run out in 2009. The old hotel will likely be closed at that time.
  • The second Doubletree hotel opened in Tucson, Arizona in 1974 and is still in operation.
  • Freshly baked chocolate chip cookies were introduced in the 1980s.
  • Doubletree Corporation was formed in 1994, following the merger of Guest Quarters Suites Hotels and Doubletree Hotels.
  • Promus Hotel Corporation and Doubletree Corporation merged in 1997.
  • Hilton Hotels Corporation acquires Promus Hotel Corporation in December 1999.

In 2006 Doubletree Hotels began using Dinah Washington's Relax Max song in one of their television commercials.[citation needed]

[edit] The Doubletree cookie

Doubletree Hotels, Suites, Resorts and Clubs present a chocolate chip cookie to each guest at check-in. Synonymous with Doubletree hospitality, the cookie has been used to differentiate the Doubletree hotel brand from its competition.

Doubletree gives out approximately 29,000 chocolate chip cookies each day, and a total of over 125,000,000. Each cookie weighs a 2½ ounces and has an average of 20 chocolate chips. In June 2002, Doubletree gave its 100,000,000th cookie.
