Looking west from the eastern end of platform 1 at Dorchester South railway station, the third station on the 750v DC third rail electrified Weymouth to London Waterloo South West Main Line line.

Less than half a mile west of the station is the junction with the unelectrified Heart of Wessex Line from Bristol Temple Meads to Weymouth via Bath, Westbury and Dorchester West
