Dorset Street, Dublin
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dorset Street (Sráid Dorset in Irish) is an important thoroughfare on the northside of Dublin, Ireland. It makes up part of the most common route from Dublin Airport to the city centre. Recent new buildings have improved some of the more dilapidated sections of this long wide street but it still maintains a somewhat rundown feel. It contains a large number of pubs, fast food outlets and an odd assortment of small retail units as well as apartments and small offices.
It was named after the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland - Lionel Cranfield Sackville, 1st Duke of Dorset. While the English county of Dorset is normally pronounced "Door-sit", Dorset Street is pronounced locally as "Door-set" Street.
The N1 National Primary Route follows Dorset Street for part of its route. It meets the N2 route at the junctions with Blessington Street and St. Mary's Place.
