Dorothy Emma Howell Rodham is the mother of Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Dorothy Rodham was born in 1919 in Chicago, Illinois to Della Murray and Edwin John Howell, Jr.[1] During at least part of her youth, through her years in high school, she lived with her paternal grandparents in the Los Angeles suburb of Alhambra, California. After graduating from Alhambra High School in 1937, she moved to Chicago where she married Hugh Ellsworth Rodham in 1942. She became a full-time homemaker, raising three children, Hillary, Hugh, and Tony. She encouraged Hillary to pursue an education and a career, though she had never done so herself.

In 1987, Hugh and Dorothy Rodham moved to Little Rock, Arkansas to be closer to their daughter; Hugh died in 1993. Dorothy Rodham values her privacy and rarely speaks to the media.
