Dorian Dervite (born 25 July 1988) is a French footballer. He is a strong, powerful and highly-rated central defender who started his career with Lille, before joining Tottenham Hotspur FC in the summer of 2006. He plays at international level for France U-19 (he has also previously played at U16,U17 and U18 level). Dorian has been a regular for France's youth teams and has captained them on occasions and is a versatile defender who can play at centre-back or left full-back. He is 6ft 4 inches and one of the tallest players in the Spurs squad which gives him a good aerial advantage. Tottenham development coach Clive Allen described him as "physically very strong and powerful, allied with that he can play and is comfortable on the ball."

[edit] Club career

On 1 July 2006, he joined Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur FC. On 14 July 2006, he scored the first goal of his Tottenham career on his debut appearance in a pre-season friendly for the Spurs XI team in a 7-1 win against Enfield Town. He then went on to make appearances against the Chelsea Youth Team. Dervite eventually played for the Reserves against West Ham; a game in which he had to mark Teddy Sheringham, and scored with a powerful header.

He made his competitive debut for Tottenham in the 3-1 win over Port Vale in the Carling Cup 4th round on 8 November 2006, partnering Michael Dawson in the heart of the Spurs defence. He later spoke of his joy at playing for the first team while still only 18 years old - "I didn't imagine playing so early for the first team, but it was a good game and I am very happy to have been involved.

"It was a very good atmosphere, I know at Tottenham that the stadium is always full for games and I don't know many other places where it is like that. It made it a very good night.

"It was a very good experience and I hope to play with the first team more, but to do that I must work very hard every day."

Some people on Internet forums have joked that Martin Jol played too much Football Manager 2006 before signing Dervitte after he was unknown in real life, but a future star in the game.

He suffered a serious knee injury while playing for the Spurs reserve side during a friendly match against Norwich in early January. He is expected to be out for several months.

[edit] International career

Dervite is captain of the France U-18 squad.
